Shelter first, with support
Beyond the Drop-In Centre shelter, we operate two emergency safehouses for youth and distribute Reaching Home subsidies to prevent evictions and help youth find homes.
Haven
Directions Youth Haven is the best fit for you if you’re ages 16 to 21 and looking for help with your mental health or substance use.
We’re here to make sure you feel safe and get the best possible care.
Safehouse
Directions Youth Safehouse is the best fit for you if you are ages 16 to 18 and need somewhere to stay because things are rough at home or you need a secure place to be.
Shelters
Our Drop-In Centre has an overnight shelter program. More information. During Emergency Weather Responses (EWRs), the Drop-In Centre has 10 extra overnight beds open.
Directions Youth Safehouse and Directions Youth Haven are both safe, stable, confidential, emergency housing for high-risk youth. If you’re in a crisis, without a safe home to be at, or if your family relationships are currently unsafe, we’re here for you. At both Haven and Safehouse, we provide youth:
private and semi-private rooms
home-cooked meals and snacks
24-hour support from on-site youth workers
help with applications for ID, income assistance, and other programs
support finding permanent housing and mentorship on strategies to build your independence
connections to other help and resources, including other Directions programs!
Reaching Home
Reaching Home is Canada’s Homelessness Strategy. The program offers housing subsidies to support the most vulnerable Canadians in maintaining safe, stable, and affordable housing and to reduce chronic homelessness.
At Directions, we provide young people with subsidies to support youth at risk of eviction to pay bills and rent, as well as move-in costs such as deposits and pet deposits. Our housing support workers also connect youth to wrap-around supports offered at the Drop-In Centre and other community organizations.
