  • take a youth-led tour of living on the streets,
  • test your luck in a homeless survival simulator, and

Serving Vancouver’s Most Vulnerable Youth

Directions is a low barrier service. That means we work with street youth living with complex mental health issues and addictions. We helped more than 1000 youth last year.

We begin by offering a warm, dry, safe place, a meal, a shower and a place to hang out.

Youth build relationships with staff who help them take their best next steps: finding a home, getting off drugs, finding work or going back to school.

We make a difference for these youth every day. With your support, we can do much more.

We Desperately Need a New Van

At Directions we use our van every day to transport homeless youth and their possessions to crucial destinations: safe shelters, secure housing, health and employment services. Our old van is at the end of its life. Help us get homeless youth where they need to go by joining A Night in the LifeEvery dollar raised will make a difference to a youth facing enormous challenges.

“I’m alive today thanks to a Directions’ staffer. He saw me in a back alley after his shift and stayed with me until I checked into detox 8 hours later.” homeless youth

FAQ

Are you a registered charity?
Yes. Directions Youth Services is part of Family Services of Greater Vancouver, charitable registration number #11891-3102-RR0001.

By signing up, what am I agreeing to do?

You are agreeing to spend the evening of Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Directions, then spend the night sleeping on the street with other participants. You also agree to raise $2500 from your networks for Directions Youth Services to support our youth programs. (Don’t worry, you’ll get lots of fundraising support!)

What exactly will the night look like?

You’ll take a youth-led tour of downtown Vancouver to learn how they survive on the streets, test your luck at a homelessness survival simulator, eat dinner, sleep outside on the street, and have breakfast.

What do I need to bring?

Bring your own sleeping bag and medications. There will be a secure location to store items like wallets, keys, purses and phones, but please avoid bringing anything that isn’t absolutely necessary.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable shoes, clothing and bring rain gear. We have a full evening planned so come ready to be active!

Does this event run rain or shine?

Yes. If it’s too cold or raining too hard, we can sleep in a covered parkade.

A night on the street? Will I be safe?

Yes. Directions staff will be staying awake and watching over participants while they sleep.

I’ve never fundraised before. What kind of support will I have?

With your registration package, you’ll get a fundraising kit with fundraising tips, sample email and social media messages and a personal donations page. This page will be easy to share via social media and email and makes it simple for donors to make an online donation and get a tax receipt.

Can I accept cash or cheque donations?

Yes. Once you have registered, login to your A Night in the Life personal webpage. From your personal webpage, click on Record pledges, click Add pledge, and fill in your donor’s personal information name, address, email and donation amount. Click on record pledge to add another pledge.

Once you are finished all of your fundraising click on Close & Print Pledge Form. Attach your cash and cheques to the pledge form, then drop off or mail in your package to Family Services of Greater Vancouver office: 201 – 1638 E Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5N 1W1. You can also bring it with you on April 6 to the A Night in the Life event.

I’m interested, but I still have questions. Who can I talk to?

We’d love to answer your questions. Please email anightinthelife@fsgv.ca or or call Phoenix at 604.633.1472 x 3552.
